3-22-Cobia Crazy

From the helm of Pesca Mas 3-24-17
Fishing just started off with a bang. Landed a few good size state snapper and the the line on the shotgun rod started peeling off. After 20 minutes or so we had a 17lb Jack Crevalle beside the boat. A few minutes after releasing the jackfish we had our first of three nice mangrove snapper that we would catch during the day. Then it all broke loose. We had two snapper on and then Bri’s(12 years old) rod doubled over, the fish came right up to the surface but didn’t give us long enough to determine whether it was a shark or a cobia. The fish made two runs and then was beside the boat for a quick gaff by the Outkasts and over came a 42.5lb. cobia(ling). What a beauty of a fish. The next couple hours we continued to peck away at the red snapper limit but we also took a few bull redfish aboard. About 1 o’clock we were done with the 6 person limit of state water snapper(24 total) and we headed toward the mouth of the river to finish our bull redfish limit. After chumming and fishing for an hour and a half it was not meant to be. I have to say that it was one of the most exciting days for the Outkasts on the water this year so far. The really good news is that when the cobia and spanish mackerel are around then the kingfish aren’t far away.
Tight Lines,
Capt. Rodney
