MEET THE OUTKASTS
When the oil and gas industry laid us off, it left only one “reel” option – offshore fishing! We love to fish, and it shows on every trip. While we’ve added some crew members who aren’t from the oilfield, they have that “Outkast” mentality that we do. If you see the word “OUTKAST” on a shirt sleeve, you found one of us!
ABOUT THE FOUNDER
Owner/Captain Rodney Harper I was laid off in May 2016 from the oilfield and at the same time, my son was also diagnosed with cancer. I immediately had to find an alternative resource for my family to survive. I’ve had ‘Revelry’ (my 27′ Catamaran) since 2012 and figured that I must sell her to make ends meet until I found another job. My wife told me that I should put the boat to work with my love of fishing. I had met Captain Scott at a networking mixer in The Woodlands while we both still worked in the oilfield. He had his captain’s license so we talked about chartering the boat, although, at the time I didn’t really care much for the idea because I didn’t want to lose my love of fishing. However, it didn’t take long after my wife convinced me to get to work. In the first 5 months of 2016, we fished with over 1,000 customers. I am a USCG 50 Ton Masters licensed Captain and state of Texas licensed guide, a certified Weighmaster (IGFA/state record certification), and Texas Director of Saltwater Tournaments. My passion is taking kids fishing and teaching them that there is more to life than video games and social media. I also believe in the cohesive effect that fishing can have on corporate team building. I became a Captain, Certified Weighmaster, and Tournament Director in the State of Texas after spending 16 years in the oilfield and traveling the world. While the oilfield may have let me down, the salt water never does!
OUR CREW
Captain James Ferris moved here to work with an old friend and have fun doing it. Capt. James and Capt. Rodney have been friends since they were teens as they competed in speed roller skating. No stranger to the salt as a diver and surfer, he may be taking you fishing as Captain. He’s been guiding with us since 2017.
Captain David Burton has been with us full time for a couple of years now. Although he isn’t an oilfield brother, he does have a salty Navy background, so an Outkast he be! He’s done his time as deckhand, and has become a fishing Captain to be reckoned with. Not only did he show up with already established sea legs, in his time off the boat, he’s a trained scuba diver. We bet you can guess who Captains our rated “Arrrrr” trips.
Captain Eric Allenstein joined us as a First Mate but has spent plenty of time on the salt before then. He’s put in his time, completed the training in 2020, and is now a 50 Ton Masters Captain. He isn’t a full-time Outkast just yet; the oilfield is still keeping him employed. In his spare time, Eric enjoys taking his son fishing, golfing, and throwing some of the best seafood boils in the area. He is also a past semi-pro ice hockey player! Eric is quite an accomplished bay and nearshore fishing captain, and has paid his dues on many an offshore trophy hunt.
Owner/Landlubbber Shana isn’t seen on a boat very often, but she’ll be at the dock to help out the crew and greet our clients. She handles our bookings, customer contact, and makes our crew shirts and souvenir merchandise. If you’ve ever called us, chances are you’ve talked to Shana!
If you want to get behind the reel, come see us and we will get ya “hooked up”!!
